Torrance golf course at Fairmont St. Andrews is an Open Championship qualifying test
Just a couple miles from the town center of St. Andrews is the Fairmont St. Andrews, home to a luxury hotel and 36 holes of golf set on 550 acres overlooking the sea and the town's one-of-a-kind medieval skyline.
Both the Torrance Course and Kittocks Course are modern links designs built in 2001, but they have different architects and philosophies.
The Torrance, designed by Scotland's Sam Torrance, features traditional pot bunkers and some of the country's finest greens. At 7,230 yards from the championship tees, the Torrance served as an Open Championship Qualifying course in 2010 when the Open was held at the Old Course in St. Andrews. Also, from 2010-2012 it has hosted the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Open on the Senior European Tour.
Since it originally opened eight holes have been redesigned to enhance the links-style qualities of this firm and fast, sand-based golf course.
The golf clubhouse overlooks both courses, and the sea and features a fantastic restaurant for post-round drinks and meals.
