Value for money
First time playing here, pleasantly suprised
Course in nice condition considering the time of year
Great value for money
Local and easy to find
GOLF
Nice course to play, it was a shame it was winter as some greens not playable due to getting ready for spring time, very well maintained though, would play again
Members think its Augusta
Members think the course is Augusta when it’s more like Bootle.
No warning of temps or mats until we got to the course, scabby course for the money.
They make a decent egg though!
Poor condition
Whenever you play a course your first impression of it is on the putting green. Shabby loads of holes and diseases patches, gave it the benefit of doubt thought there’s no way the actual course can be this bad… it was.
To be charging £50 green fee and the greens to look like this is a shambles. Tee boxes and fairways in decent nick but no point when you’re hitting on to greens in that state. I didn’t hit one putt that rolled on a true line. Awful, should be closed until they sort it out.
Meh, ok
It was ok, nothing special.
Pace was slow for a Thursday lunchtime. That was mainly due to the members ahead of us.
Greens weren’t in a great condition. Fairways decent for this time of year. Tee boxes not great.
Holes are packed in tightly around each other in parts.
It’s probably a decent summer course, would avoid the rest of the year.
Woolton GC Round
Really enjoyed my round. From the warm welcome from staff, excellent food. Also great to see so many juniors learning and playing the game!
Return to old stamping ground
I was a member at Woolton for 40 years and returned after an absence of 8 years to play a nostalgic round with another former member.
It was a memorable day with some good golf and good to see the course structure and layout improved on and well laid out.
Trees grow and that was the main difference between this and former visits especially on holes 8, 9, 12, 16, 17 and 18 which made an already difficult par 4 9th even tougher but probably even better.
Introduction of a water creek hazard on holes 12 and 16 was a good aspect and long overdue as the low point on each hole had also suffered water ponding.
Overall the course for me albeit still short was visually improved quite considerably so a return for me and my boys who honed their skills at Woolton as juniors will be imminent
Considering all the rain over the past week. The course played very well. Greens were firm, but bobbly. Hard to get a decent roll sometimes.
General layout of the course can cause a slight back log too. A few holes you have to wait for people to clear greens/tee boxes. Wasn’t a major problem for me on the day we played. But can see it being an issue on a busier day. You are also constantly reminded that there is out of bounds everywhere. With it being a tight course. There are a lot of houses lining fairways. I’d stay away from this course if you slice the ball off the tee.
Overall, it’s a decent course. With winter golf fast approaching. It’s definitely a course I’d consider playing again considering how well it played with the heavy rain we’ve had recently.
Much improved
This is the third time I have played this course and it gets better each time. Full marks to the green keepers, they were amazing. Would not hesitate to play this course again.
Water the greens please!
The course generally was in desperate need of water, impossible to hold the greens, and bunkers were baked below the half inch of sand that covered the base resulting in a painful experience to the wrists!
Come on Green staff at least put some water on the greens?
Peaceful but "locked in"!!!!!!
Son and I made a last ditch booking on the day, and tee'd off at 2:10pm. Despite all the rain we've had in the past couple of months, the course was really good, just a bit boggy on the 10th fairway. Only issue we had is when coming off the 16th to cross the road to play the last two holes, the gate had been shut and we were not given a pass code to get thro it! Cue dismantling golf bags from buggies, and literally squeezing thro thick hedges to get out! Never happened before when we played here, and it was still light, and we finished the last two holes in daylight as well. So the moral of the story if playing here late in the day is make sure you ask for the combination for the gate unless your a) thin or b) pole vaulters!
Played Sunday 11/6/17 course was in excellent condition greens where perfect would recommend this course to anyone
Woolton golf course
Easy to book friendly staff on arrival left to our own devices to enjoy a lovely course not to hilly so a nice walkable course if you want to enjoy the day.
Greens were excellent for me anyway
Course in good shape and thankfully not to much water
Excellent greens!!
The course is in cracking condition the greens were prefect and fast! interesting to see what they will be like once the dryer weather conditions come around and they get cut a little shorter, fairways and tee boxes in good condition, pace of play was good considering it was busy, will definitely be getting out a few times this year on Woolton. staff excellent and really friendly.
Lovely course
A beautiful course well maintained and in all round excellent condition from tee to greens I could not fault this course.
The pace of play was a bit slow but it was a Wednesday morning.
Summary if you want a nice friendly course with no snobbery this is worth a look
Good Condition for time of year
Played at 2pm course was very quiet so got round in a speedy time. Considering time of year greens were great fast and true, fairways and tees good also. Short course were you need to make your score on the front 9, full of interesting holes well protected small greens.
No practice facilities, leaves are an issue on some holes and not the friendliest members.
