Quirky course. Worth a try
Great location on the Downs. Course conditions could have been better but definitely playable. A good work out too. A lot of climbing and descending but well the effort. Enough good holes to encourage a return soon. Great value too.
Tricky par threes
Good all round course, some challenging holes especially the 12th.
I’ll return in a few weeks.
Waterhall
Due to low cloud (drizzle) and strong winds we had the course pretty much to ourselves.
Chap behind bar/reception asked for money (even though I'd already paid in full on teeoffftimes) and took a good few minutes to find booking on his computer. Club house closed so no post game drink/snack when we finished at 17:20.
Very nice course
Considering the time of year the course was in good condition particularly the greens.
waterhall
Haven't played here for over a year.. impressed with the condition of the fairways and greens.. some bunkers and rough affected by dog's toilet.. had to wait several times for walkers who seemed to have no comprehension that they were walking on a golf course, that we wanted to hit a ball and that it would hurt if it hit them.. on 17th hole 5 of them just stood in middle of the fairway with 4 dogs and had a chat for over 5 minutes. will play here again and ask before teeing off who has right of way, dog walkers or golfers?
A very beautiful course
Maybe not quite to the same standards of other courses close by but certainly close enough to offer great value for money. Two rounds at Waterhall or one at nearby course? It's an easy choice
Excellent variation on every hole. This is no drive then wedge course. You need to be creative and very precise to score well
There isn't a more picturesque course though, the scenery is truly spectacular
Needs care and attention
First time back in 15 years when this course was top notch. Unfortunately the greens need some attention and care around the edges. This course is in my opinion a challenge and leveler with fantastic views. Yes it's energy sapping because of the location within the hills and valleys. It's still puts a smile on my face but can't say the same for the miserable chap behind the bar. Feeling thirsty I asked for a can of drink, the reply was " run out". Never in the last 45 years playing golf has a shop never had drinks,. Anyway let's hope the owners wise up to the fact they have a gem of a course and it's needs care to keep the players playing. Over all I had a great game and will return again.
Check ifv there is Footgolf on before booking!
Not a bad course at all for the money and it's in a decent enough condition. The only problem is that the Club obviously doesn't let Golf Now or Tee Off Times know their Foot Golf bookings. We were lucky and arrived earlier than our tee time. If we had been 5 minutes later we would have been stuck slap bang in the middle of several Foot Golf parties who play on the front nine. So play early or check the schedule.
Not Great
First time playing the course and pretty disappointed. Could be a great course with the right THC as the layout's not to bad but needs good investment and course managment. Fairways were poor, greens were poor. Man made mini hill structures around most of the greens were weird and unnatural and most greens were quite small. They could plant more trees to make it more challenging in key areas as there is so much space down each fairway. They have football golf holes on most fairways on the first nine which wasn't appealing and spoiled the holes. If they need to generate more money they should maintain the course better and attract more clients. Temporary tees at the moment but that's fine and understandable.
When I crossed over to the eighth tee I heard a couple of players who had just finished say that they won't be playing the course ever again and I think I feel the same way. It's disappointing as could be such a great course with the amount of space and right layout. Needs a course manager to steer it in the right direction to become a decent course. The club house was nice.
Waterhall
A interesting layout good conditions on fairways ,but bunkers are never raked by greenkeepers full of animal hoof prints ,And the greens are badly maintained just the odd roll would help this course would be so much better if greens were up to a better standard like all the rest of the courses nearby
Worst course in Sussex
This is by far the worst 18 hole course in Sussex more of goat track then a golf course. Greens are and always are fluffy and slow fairways and tee boxes are in awful condition. Very hilly and windy not one if you want to enjoy the round. Don't be fooled by the "it's a must play course" on the website you will be truly disappointed.
Much improved course
Over the years the greens had deteriated and were not true. Over the past 6 months there has been a big improvement to the greens, still not perfect but so much better than before and considering it was very late November, nothing to grumble about.
The course is not too challenging, but there are some lovely unique holes for you to open your shoulders with your driver. Wide fairways on most holes will forgive a slice or hook. Beware of the wind on the South Downs that can ruin your round, but to be honest it makes it more of a test.
