Twice held the Ryder Cup, 1933 and 1937, when it was considered the toughest course in Britain by the professionals of the time. Held the Dunlop professional tournament several times in the 50's. It is one of the four Final Qualifying tournaments any time The Open is in Lancashire. An undulating links course with practice ground, practice chipping green & bunkers plus a putting green. Full bar and restaurant facilities available.

Starts with a 200 yard par 3 with a green surrounded by 9 bunkers before wending its way through the sand dunes with no two holes being alike. The signature hole is the 16th, 'Gumbleys' which has a sleepered sand dune guarded by two deep bunkers which catch poor second shots on this par 5 that normally plays in to the prevailing wind. .
