While doing research for my new golf book I had to find out that this course ceased operations in early 2019.
I had the good fortune to stop at Otway GC in fall 2016 on my way back from Ballyliffin to Rosapenna and found a little 9-holer! A real stunner, although certainly not anyway near the great links of Royal County Down, Portmarnock or Dooks it had some charme, unsual features like crossing fairways at the 2nd and 3rd hole, a tee next to an old costal defense fort where you had to hit over an inlet/strand and some of the mullan grass patches every ballstriker fears.
I was the only player on this rather unkept course with small bumpy greens and had to navigate my way following instincts - and had a ball!
Once more, true to a policy I had read in a book of the late Jim Finegan, 'leave the beaten track and look for the unknown' it paid out: A great experience in a wonderful and peaceful setting.
Sadly the club and course have now disappeared from the maps after having brought fun and joy to golder for about 130 years.
