As one turns from the main road to Mellor and Townscliffe clubhouse an awareness of freshness and escape is born. It is good for the soul of man to rise occasionally above his normal surroundings and look down on the world around him - few courses in England give this impression of detachment as effectively as does Mellor.

Course Details
Course Name: Old Course Holes: 18 Yardage: 5925 SSS: 69 |
Lying on the western hills of the Pennines where Derbyshire and Cheshire meet, Mellor is an interesting mixture of moorland and parkland golf. Wonderful views across Cheshire plain and a magnificent setting serve as the backdrop for a course to test the skills of golfers at all levels. The opening six holes although not long provide an immediate examination of shot-making ability and are set amongst mixed woodland of oak and elegant silver birch. Holes seven to twelve now assume the true moorland character and the golfer who plays to his handicap on these challenging holes will be well satisfied. The closing holes - now in a parkland setting include two par 5s, both with water to negotiate and a 443 yard par 4 finish that demands two long accurate shots to find the well guarded home green. press here for Mellor and Townscliffe Golf Club course reviews |
