Knaresborough was established in 1920 with the aim of a club run on 'modest, unpretentious lines and devoid of class and clique distinction'.
One notable occurrence in the early days, was the playing of a match between Knaresborough and Oakdale Golf Clubs for players with handicaps exceeding 17. This is the first recorded 'Rabbits' match, it led to regular fixtures and eventually the formation of 'The Yorkshire Rabbits'.
In 1980, the club employed Hawtree and Son as course architects and built what was essentially the course we now play. The current clubhouse was opened in 1981 but underwent extensive changes in 1994/5, improving facilities for its members and visitors alike.
Many golfing competitions are held at Knaresborough, with local companies holding their annual tournaments in the peace and tranquillity of a course away from the hustle and bustle of town and city.
