Coxmoor Golf Club was founded in 1913 on part of its present site although many improvements have been made over the years. The course runs adjacent to Forestry Commision land close to the town of Sutton in Ashfield. Perched up on one of the highest points in Nottinghamshire, members and visitors can experience some scenic views; from the clubhouse you can see into the Leicestershire Wolds and the Vale of Belvoir; from the 13th tee over Mansfield and on a clear day, Lincoln Minster.
One of the club's founder members, the Revd.T.C.Shelmerdine, was Captain in 1913 and 1914. Since those early days the Club has continued to prosper and now has a membership in the region of 700 traditionally including a strong Junior Section. One of the most successful Junior Members was Alec Shepperson (the current President of the club). He went on to represent Great Britian in the 1957 and 1959 Walker Cup teams. It was at the Minikahda Golf and Country Club, Minesota in 1957 that Coxmoor became the first British Club to have provided two players for one team. Alec was joined by Alan Bussell who had joined Coxmoor from his native Scotland. In the 1959 event at Muirfield, Scotland, Alec played against the legendary Jack Nicklaus who subsequently maintained that Alec was one of the best 'iron' players he had ever seen. Even today, Coxmoor provides players for the County team, most of whom have come through the Junior ranks.
Coxmoor has had only three professionals, the current one David Ridley, a former Tour Player and current EGU Midland Coach. He succeeded George Marshall White (Bill) who had been Pro for 37 years following the retirement of his father Leonard White in 1948.

Course Details
Course Name: Coxmoor Holes: 18 Yardage: 6571 SSS: 72 |
The 18 hole moorland/heathland course (Par:73. SSS:72) stretches to 6,571 yards and has some testing holes, none more so than the 5th and 12th (both Par 4). When the prevailing wind blows, both holes are unreachable, even for the most proficient golfer. Alteration and work on the course is constantly being carried out to cope with all year round play. The course record is 67, achieved by Tim Stephens and Dave Gibson, both Leicestershire County players. The club has hosted Open Championship Regional Qualifying Events and the prestigious English Champion Club Tournament.
