The proprietary club was established in 1974 when the original 9 holes were opened. The current 27 hole complex surrounds the 13th century clubhouse which was originally used as the family farm house. Although a proprietary club, the ambience of the clubhouse and friendliness of the 600 plus members, creates a very warm atmosphere for visitors. The club boasts a first class reputation for the quality of food experienced several dignitaries including Lady Thatcher and The King of Malaysia. Three resident chefs provided breakfast through to 'a la carte' dinners, with bar snacks always available.
The condition and challenge of the golfing complex has persuaded the Essex PGA to hold the annual Essex Open Championships at Channel in June 1999. This event coincides with the Club's 25th Anniversary.

Course Name: Channels Holes: 18 Yardage: 6300 SSS: 71

Channels opened as an 18 holes in 1994. This is an interesting lightly bunkered, undulating course. The course starts on the flat meadowlands for the first four holes and then begins the challenge of the over the old quarry. The flooded quarries demand that the golfer pay the utmost attention. The 6th 'L' shaped challenges the golfer to make a hole in one. The 17th has water between the tee and the green . The 18th howeve,r is a tough finish. Course Name: Belstead Holes: 9 Yardage: 4800 SSS: 63

This pleasant short course was formed from the remaining new holes of the Channels course. Belsteads acquired its name from an old farm. There are two sets of tees to allow for variety. The terrain is from the old quarry site on which it stands is a mixture of the quarry works and wooded meadowland, making for some interesting play. The bunkers are rather deep and may hold you back! The 4th par 3 hole is downhill and is an excellent test to of accuracy. The green is surrounded by a lake and out of bounds The fifth offers a 'Kingpin challenge' for a drive over water.
